ADVENTURE SOUTH GUIDE SERVICE-Buras/Empire/Venice---

Today I had Jim Aikman, along with his wife Tonya, brother Kevin, and their mother, Mrs. Aikman. When Jim booked the trip, he explained to me that all he wanted was a nice easy fishing trip for himself and his brother, but more importantly for his wife and mother. With this in mind, I stopped and picked up some new Frelich 150's on the way down to Venice this morning, just for that added advantage. At about 6:00 we headed down river and found beautiful conditions when we hit open water. It was relatively smooth with a slight breeze and the water color was trout green. I was even happier to see that the rig I wanted to fish was void of any boats. 4-5 years ago you could fish any rig you wanted without having to worry about being crowded by other boats, but this is not the case anymore. If you are the first one to the rig you are lucky, and you are even luckier if your time alone last more than 1 hour. At any rate, we pulled up to the rig and I anchored in just the right position. As I rigged up the ladies with the Frelich 150's, the guys started throwing the Dudley's and were getting strikes. Make way for the Frelich 150's! As soon as the ladies started getting those lines in the water, it was fish, after fish, after fish. I had trout lying all over the floor of the boat, and more coming over the sides. It was pretty fast, and was on and off like that until about 9:30, and then it was like someone flipped a switch. I made a quick head count, and threw ice on top of 57 beautiful speckled trout. We probably could have beat out a limit if we had stayed there, but we opted to take a ride and look for something different.

I headed toward a stretch of beach that I fished yesterday with some success, but the tide was just about at a stand still and we did not even get a bite. I then ran into Capt. Bobby, Capt. Allen, and their friend Clay, and they told me that they had left the redfish biting way to my west. They were looking for big trout for the Faux Pas rodeo and did not care to catch the reds. Thanks guys! I took my crew to the spot and they were able to top off the ice chest with nice 18"-24" reds in no time. We then decided to come in at around 10:30 to beat the mid-day heat. It was nice to get in at a decent hour for once. I'm usually making a full day of it and it was a nice change of pace. I'd like to thank the Aikman's for coming on a trip with me. I hope you had a good time and I look forward to seeing all of you again soon.

Most of the trout were caught using Frelich 150's Carolina rigged. The reds were caught with Frelich 150's under a cork, and with Deadly Dudley Terror Tail Jr's on 5/16-ounce jigheads.
