Redfish Yes, Trout No!

ADVENTURE SOUTH GUIDE SERVICE-Buras/Empire/Venice---
2 Day Report
Friday and Saturday I had Capt. Bobby help me with the Craig Carson crew from Texas. Friday we headed down river with a NNW wind at our back. The wind stiffened throughout the morning, and made it impossible for me to get to the trout that I have been catching most of the week. With that in mind, I decided to stay in the passes and target redfish. I tried an area that I had not fished in a few days, and had high hopes at our chances when I saw the bait and clear green water. Everything looked good, but the fish just did not want to cooperate. We would pull up to a spot, catch a fish, and then nothing. We also had a hook and release problem most of the morning that cost us an early limit. The guys did overcome, however, and were able to put the 15 fish limit in the boat. Capt. Bobby did a bit better with a limit of reds at his 1st stop, 28 trout, and a few flounder.
Saturday we changed crews a little and went down river for a little more fishing action. I tried to hit a spot that I figured would be prime for some top water action, but the results were nothing to brag about. I think we caught 1 fish on top water, and had a few more blow up on the Top Dog Jr's, but that was about it. We then switched back to the jigs and headed to another spot in search of some keeper redfish. We got lucky and were able to fill the limit in about 1 hour. With the reds in the boat we went in search of some nice trout. I fished shallow, deep, and in between, but I just did not have it this weekend. I did make the right call and take a long, bumpy ride to a trout hole that has been producing, but my hopes got shattered when I saw another boat anchored in the crack. Oh well, I did not want to mess him up so we just fished about 50 yards from him and had to look away while he pulled fish over the side. Let this be a lesson to some of you. Do not mess up other peoples fishing. I get paid to put people on fish, but I will not mess another boats fun to do it. There is too much water out there.
Today I headed down to Venice, and was supposed to meet Capt. Bobby and Capt. Pete down at Port Eads to take a crew that was staying on a house boat down there fishing, but when I saw the weather, I kindly called them and said that they would have to make out without me. It was raining cats and dogs, and the lightning was popping all over. All the other guides cancelled their trips, and Capt. Bobby was not even sure if they would fish or not. Hopefully things will calm down for Tuesday.
The trout have been aggressively taking Frelich 150's fished under a cork and Deadly Dudley Terror Tail Jr's on 5/16-ounce jigheads. The reds were caught with Deadly Dudley Terror Tail Jr's on 5/16-ounce jigheads. If you want to go fishing with a guide service that prides itself on giving it's clients an outdoor adventure of a life time, give me a call at (504) 392-1700, or on my cell (504) 382-2711. You will catch fish with us and have a lot of fun doing it! The night fishing action is on, and the available days in August are limited. The run is on early this year, and I am now booking up for the September Redfish Roundup in the passes down river. Don't miss the boat. I Guarantee Fish and Fun!!! On another note, if you are looking for a good light tackle set up, head on over to the nearest sporting goods store and pick up a Shimano Clarus 7 ft. medium action rod and the Shimano casting or spinning reel of you choice. I just picked up a couple of the Clarus rods at Academy and I can't be happier with them.
And remember, when fishing with Adventure South Guide Service, you will catch your own fish. I will not catch them for you. Until Net Time, Catch Em' Up!!!
