Cold Windy Specks

ADVENTURE SOUTH GUIDE SERVICE-Buras/Empire/Venice---

Today was the first of two days for Mrs. Wanda and Mrs. Gene from Tennessee. Talk about a change in weather. Yesterday it was blowing 20+ knots out of the SSW, this morning I wake up to 20+ knots from the NNW. If that type of wind shift doesn't stir things on the bayou up, nothing will. Nevertheless, these ladies had driven an awfully long way to go fishing and we were not going to let a little wind stop us. I met the gals at the dock in Venice at 8:00. They are here to relax, and have a good time, and they se no need to get up at the crack of dawn and go running down the river in the cold weather. We left the dock at around 8:30 and headed south to look for some place to fish back in the canes out of the wind. With the high river and dropping water in response to the big wind shift, the water on my way down river looked terrible. To call it chocolate milk is an understatement.

Ater a long, cold boat ride, I pulled back on the throttle and instructed the ladies on how we would be fishing. I had caught some pretty nice trout in this spot 2 days ago, so I figured that they would really be stacked up with the dropping water. Wrong. The water was just too muddy, and falling hard, and the fish were either not there, or just not interested in biting. We fooled around for a few minutes without getting a bite, before I called it quits and headed even farther down river to a more protected area. The water was rising hard and looked a little better then at our first stop, and it was not long before we were able to put a nice fat trout in the box. We continued to bounce around all day long catching one here, one there, before packing it up and heading to the dock at around 1:30.

The total for the day was 28 nice Venice specks, which is more than I could ask for on a day when it was blowing and cold. The fish were caught on Deadly Dudley Terror Tail Jr's on ? ounce jig heads suspended 2 ft. under a cork.

I'll be out on the water again tomorrow and I'll keep you posted.
