ADVENTURE SOUTH GUIDE SERVICE
-Buras/Empire/Venice---

It's been some time since my last report. I got behind again, and made an attempt to catch up, but my computer locked up before I could post the report, or save the info. and I lost it all. I quit before I tore the computer apart. At any rate, I've been busy catching fish and even had a little time to shoot some ducks this past Saturday. The duck hunt was especially good for me, as it was my first hunt this season and because I had my brother along as my hunting partner. We headed down river to the Delta National Refuge and set up on some birds that I had located Friday evening. We had a few good flights at around 6:00, but it was still a little too dark to identify what type of ducks they were, so we opted to pass. I'd rather wait then come back to the dock with a limit of spoonbills and dos gris. We waited them out and at around 8:00 the birds started to decoy real good, and we had no problem killing our 2-man limit, which consisted of 8 drake widgeon, 2 drake pintail, and 2 drake gadwall. I was very happy with the shoot and it was nice to watch those big long-necked pintail drop into the decoys after we already had our 2 pintail on the water. Sunday we also made a hunt along with Capt. Bobby and our friend Don Gros, but the results were nothing like Saturday. We hunted a spot that had produced for Capt. Bob several times in the past, but the conditions were against us on this day. No wind, no water, and not a cloud in the sky, equals no ducks on the water. If there is one thing I have learned in hunting Venice, it's that you've got to hunt big open water on no wind days, not closed in ponds. Oh well, we had fun anyway.

Yesterday I had some guys scheduled to come in from out of town to fish with me, but for some reason they decided not to show up. I guess that?s why we get deposits, but it still does not make up for having to drive down to Venice for nothing. I think I'm going to make some policy changes at the first of the year.

Today I had the boat loaded down with John, Andre, Owen, and Andy from New Orleans. John had set this trip up with me some time ago, and he made it perfectly clear that he really wanted to try to get on some nice specks. With this in mind, I decided to skip JLT's in Yellow Cotton Bay, and head south from Venice in search of some big yellow mouths. To make a long story short, the guys got all they could hope for as we ended the day at around 1:30 with 100 fat speckled trout in the boat. Our biggest trout was around 5 lb., but the average for the total catch was somewhere around 2-3 lb. The majority of the fish were caught using Deadly Dudley Terror Tails on 3/8 ounce jig heads suspended about 2 ft. under a cork. I'll be out on the water again tomorrow, weather permitting, and I'll keep you posted.
