ADVENTURE SOUTH GUIDE SERVICE -Buras/Empire/Venice---
Day 2 of the butt whipping from Mother Nature continues. Taking a look at the starched flag when I passed Buras let me know what we were in for. Today I had Mr. Kevin Dodd and his son Justin from San Antonio, TX. They were down for a father-son fishing trip, and even though I gave them the option to stay at the dock, they said that they were there and that they might as well give it a shot. With that said, we battened down the hatches, tightened our belts, and headed for the east side of the river. We did not quite make it to our first stop, when we were met by a thunderstorm that had to have winds of 40 mph and lots of rain. That is not what I had in mind to start the day, but I continued on and finally was able to find some protection from the wind. After sticking an anchor, I instructed the guys to get up on the bow and to start letting the jigs fly. After only a few casts Justin jumped off the first trout and it was not long after that his dad put one in the boat. Kevin then hooked up with a big jack, and the fight was on. Justin also hooked up with a jack and it was fire drill time. They both boated and released the jacks, and then added a few bull reds for good measure. With the wind stiffening with each passing hour, the guys continued to nickel and dime the trout, before we headed in at 10:30. The guys were looking for more action, and decided that they would get of the water early and head to New Orleans for some site seeing. All in all, it was not such a bad day, with 17 trout, 2 bull reds, and 2 jacks caught and released. I'm confident that we could have stayed out and put together a nice box of fish, but the guys had a good time, and that is what counts. All the fish today were caught using Purple/Chartreuse or Black/Chartreuse Deadly Dudley Terror Tails on ? ounce jig heads.
