ADVENTURE SOUTH GUIDE SERVICE -Buras/Empire/Venice---
It was an absolutely gorgeous day down in Venice today. Fishing with me today was Jason and his girlfriend Nicole from Georgia. Jason has a thing for the redfish so that was on the program today. My goal this morning was to look for some big bulls early and then head into the grass to sight fish some reds once the sun got up. Yesterday my clients caught some pretty nice reds on one of our stops, so I figured I would head there first thing this morning and see if we could not get on them early. When we arrived, the water looked good and there was quit a bit of bait in the area. As I used the MotorGuide trolling motor to move the boat into position, I could see some fish blowing up on some pogies. I set anchor and my crew started hooking fish, but it was more ladyfish than anything else for the first couple of minutes. We had a little fun with them and then the trout moved in. Go figure! I go looking for reds and end up catching trout. Not what I intended, but my crew did not complain. We sat on this spot for some time catching a nice quality trout every now and then, but the reds never did show up for us. There was another boat anchored pretty close by catching a few, but we decided to go and look for some big reds elsewhere.
I made about a 5 minute run to a spot that I have been seeing huge schools of bulls, but I could not find them anywhere. We just settled for trolling the bank and catching scattered reds. We did see a couple of big reds tailing and that was an awesome sight. Nothing like seeing a 20-30 lb. red with his whole tail sticking out of the water.
At about 9:30 the sun was high enough for some good sight fishing, so I headed to the final stop that I made yesterday. We had to move around a little, but once we got on the fish it was constant action for 3-4 hours. We constantly saw single reds and big schools of reds cruising along the shore. The limit of 10 came easy, and my crew caught and released many, many more. We ended the day with 10 reds and 23 trout and enough reds thrown back to make any body happy. Jason said that he probably caught more reds today than he ever has and what made it even better is that he was able to see and cast to just about all of them. There is not another place with this type of fishery in the country, and I'll bet everything I own on it.
Our trout were caught using Deadly Dudley Terror Tails in Purple/Chartreuse and Black/Chartreuse, while the reds were caught using Dudley's rigged with a spinner or with gold spoons.
