ADVENTURE SOUTH GUIDE SERVICE -Buras/Empire/Venice---
This past Saturday and Sunday I had Doctor Arthur Moore from North Alabama and his son, Doctor Justin Moore in from Jacksonville, FL, to do a little Venice Fly Fishing. All I can say is that you could not have picked a better 2 days to be on the water down in Venice. On Saturday, I made the short run to a cove I have been fishing on and off for some time now, and from the moment I put the MotorGuide trolling motor over the side, until the moment I pulled it out the water, it was action on every stop. At our first stop we looked around as the guys prepared their gear from a battle and you could see redfish pushing water in every direction. No matter where you looked, there was a fish pushing water on the surface. When the guys where ready, Justin made a cast and was hooked up immediately. After we boated that fish, it was not long before Mr. Arthur was hooked up. It was like taking candy from a baby. We would see a fish pushing water towards us and just troll into casting distance. All you had to do was get the fly around the fish and it was over. This action went on the entire day, with most of the fish coming on poppers, which added even more excitement to the already great fishing. The guys ended the day with between 35-40 fish caught and released.
My group from Friday, Jason and Nikki, fished with Capt. Pete on Saturday and where able to catch fish on casting and spinning tackle until their arms where sore. Capt. Pete estimated that they caught between 75-90 reds.
On Sunday me and the Moore?s headed back to the same location, and again got on the fish immediately, but a big thunder cloud approaching us from the east ran us off and to another spot that has been producing very well. We saw some fish in a matter of minutes after arriving at our next stop, but some heavy rain surprised us and we had to seek shelter in some tall canes and let the rain go by. It only lasted a few minutes, and when we started back to fishing, the guys where hooked up in no time. We could see nice schools of 5-10 reds swimming along the canes, and all you had to do was get the fly in the middle of them. These fish are very aggressive eating machines. We stayed in this area, only moving about ? mile, and the guys continued to cast to schools and single reds that we saw cruising the canes. The Sunday total was similar to Saturday with between 35-40 reds caught and released on the fly. Fly fishing does not get any better, and if you don't believe me, then just wait until my report tomorrow.
