Today I had Kevin Ford and Kohn Sulser of Geaux Fish TV out with me to do a little fishing for Bull Redfish on top waters. This time of the year if you find big schools of baitfish in the outer bays, it is almost certain that the big bulls will not be far behind. I headed out to where I have been finding large schools of hungry reds, and today was no different. I saw birds diving in the distance, and closer inspection showed waves and waves of pogies, with bigger fish crashing in them all over the place. It was a bit early to have good enough light for the camera, so Kevin and I decided to practice by seeing just how many of these big fish we could tease up to the boat without hooking. It's harder than you think to keep a top water lure from a hungry redfish. We managed to tease up several, but made the mistake of catching a few, all before the camera was ready.

John signaled that he had enough light to work with, so I proceeded to drift along in the schools of bait fish, just looking for the pronounced v-shaped wave in the water that indicates a redfish is present. It did not take long before we hooked up on the first fish, with many more to follow. We had a few doubles, and many blow up's on the top waters early, but as the sun got up overhead, the fish seemed to really want the jigs, and of course, Kevin was more than happy to oblige. It was almost frustrating as I watched schools of hungry redfish crashing around and even into the side of the boat, with little or no action coming to my top water. You had to find one sitting on the surface and cast to it in order to get a bite. At any rate, we ended the day early with plenty of footage and another show in the bag.
