3 Day Report
Yesterday I finished up a 2 day trip with the Sanders from Mississippi. This 2 brother and dad team came down with the hopes of putting a whippin? on some redfish, and that is just what they did. On Friday we had to dodge storms all day and the water conditions were any thing but favorable, but with the help of some Spot Removers, rigged with Deadly Dudley Terror Tails, the guys were able to put 8 nice reds in the boat at the first stop.
The bite was short lived; however, as the tide had just about finished it's rise for the day. Oh well, we'll just have to kill a little time and wait for that tide to fall. We ran around from spot to spot, catching a fish here, fish there until around 11:00 when the tide started to fall. I headed back to the same area that we started the day in and the bit was on. It did not really seem to matter what the guys used, but the stink crickets under a strike indicator really seemed to get them going. The guys must have caught 30-40 reds in the same little area before a big storm moved through and made it a bit choppy. We tried a few more spots, but the weather was building, and I thought it best to head to the house before we got caught in any nasty weather.
Yesterday, the guys wanted to try for some big bull reds first thing in the morning. After a little bit of a delayed start because of a malfunctioning alarm clock, we headed down river with bulls' on the brain. I went straight to an area that typically hold lost of big bull this time of the year, but it was just not in the cards for us. We did end up catching a few nice reds on Top Dog Jr's, but none of the big fish we were looking for. After trying for bulls a little while longer, we headed to a redfish hole were Capt. Allen had just finished slamming the reds, and the guys proceeded to hammer the redfish on stink crickets under a strike indicator. They also caught some on the Terror Tails, but you know how those stink crickets get them going. We sat there and I hustled as the guys caught fish on just about every cast. When we left this spot to go look for bulls again, the count for the reds was at 50, and it was only 10:30. We ran and ran, and ran some more, but I guess I was just jinxed. I could not put the guys on a big bull yesterday. I promise you guys that we will get them when you come back in October. Thanks, and I'll see you then.
Today I had Hudson, Art, and Lynn from Baton Rouge. They bought trip from CCA, and we finally got together this morning. The guys wanted trout, so I went for broke and headed to the west. The water looked good when I hit the beach, so we did a little rig hopping, and the guys were able to put a nice mess of 60 trout in the boat with some good hard fishing. It was not every cast, but they stuck with it, and it paid off. In between our rig hopping, we had time to head to the reefs inside and put a hurting on the redfish. Our first spot was not that productive, but at our second spot, it was just a matter of getting the lure over the reef and it was a definite hook up. Art put on a clinic at this spot and easily caught 20 reds without ever changing positions in the boat. Needless to say the guys were able to easily fill their 3-man limit of 15 redfish. We headed in at about 1:00 with a box full of fish and some happy campers. Thanks for supporting CCA guys'. I'll see you soon.
